EPP Collaboratory

GenAI Use in Teacher Preparation Programs

Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) are currently navigating uncertainty about how to effectively integrate AI tools into their curricula. Considering the critical importance of understanding how to incorporate AI responsibly in education, we are establishing a year-long collaborative initiative with multiple EPP programs. The AmplifyGAIN center at the University of Washington will provide actionable resources and support for incorporating generative AI into teacher preparation program coursework as this collaborative explores best practices, develops instructional strategies and creates AI guidance for EPP programs.

Application Now Closed

Key Objectives

This initiative will focus on four key areas:

  • Enhancing AI literacy among EPP instructors and field supervisors;
  • Engaging these stakeholders to explore practical use cases across various coursework and field activities;
  • Developing shared resources, including syllabus adaptations and instructional strategies that reflect responsible AI integration; and
  • Providing actionable recommendations to guide EPP programs develop comprehensive AI strategies in the collective and beyond.

What We’re Looking For

We seek 10 faculty members and instructors from Educator Preparation Programs who are interested in thoughtfully applying GenAI tools in their courses and programs. Selected participants will join a collaborative cohort engaged in co-design sessions throughout the project period, working together to explore, develop, and test AI integration strategies in teacher preparation contexts.

Project Activities

Participants will engage in a series of facilitated co-design sessions where they will collaborate on developing practical materials and approaches for AI integration. The AmplifyGAIN Center will support resource development, including adapted course syllabi, documented use cases across various coursework and field experiences, and assessment frameworks for evaluating AI implementation. Throughout the initiative, we will collect candidates’ feedback and reflections to inform our understanding of effective practices.

Project Timeline

Apply to join the collaborative by Nov. 15 2025. The collaborative will convene from January 1 to June 30, 2026.

Expected Outcomes

This collaborative work will produce adapted syllabi incorporating responsible AI use, documented use cases spanning EPP coursework and field experiences, and assessment tools for evaluating AI integration. Participants will contribute to research insights and have opportunities to present findings at education conferences. All resources developed will be designed for scalability, supporting EPP programs nationwide in their AI integration efforts.

Support & Compensation

Faculty time will be compensated for participation in co-design sessions and implementation activities. Mini-grants will be allocated to participating programs to support AI integration efforts. The AmplifyGAIN Center will provide ongoing technical and pedagogical support throughout the project.
