Li Sun Use Case

Faculty & Institution

  • Faculty: Li Sun
  • Institution: Augustana University
  • EPP area / program: Educational technology

Course Information

  • Course title: EDUC 2110: Technology in Education
  • Course duration: February 5, 2026-May 21, 2026
  • Implementation timing: Weeks 13 and 14

AI Integration Overview

  • Use case title: AI-Generated Mini-Lessons for Technology in Education
  • AI role: Lesson planning assistant, brainstorming partner, and object of critical audit
  • AI tools used: Colleague.ai
  • Purpose: Introduce teacher candidates to Colleague.ai, then have them use AI to design mini-lessons while documenting prompts, critiques, and revisions.

Activity / Task Description

Sun introduced Colleague.ai tools, demonstrated brainstorming lesson ideas and generating interactive activities, and then moved students into autonomous exploration. Students used AI to create lesson plans for end-of-semester mini-lesson presentations. They presented the mini-lessons to peers, described their original prompts, explained how they critiqued AI’s first output, and showed how they refined prompts to meet instructional goals. Peers and the instructor evaluated live lesson delivery for standards alignment, objectives, instructional strategies, and student engagement. Students also completed a 20-question AI literacy survey.

Do / Do-Not Guidance

  • Documented do’s: Spend time teaching students to navigate Colleague.ai; teach students to audit AI responses; integrate AI use into the mini-lesson presentation so process and product are visible.
  • Documented do-nots: Do not let students blindly copy and paste AI outputs; do not treat AI as a substitute for pedagogical voice or lesson-planning logic; do not input identifiable student data into public AI models.

Evidence & Reflections

Sun reported that some students experienced cognitive overload navigating teacher-facing tools and student-facing modules, and some accepted the first AI response. She would give students more time to explore AI for classroom discourse, UDL choice boards, and cognitively varied instructional explanations.
